7 October 2015

According to the Road Development Agency, the construction of major road in Zambia is in good progress. The road in question is the upgrade of 109KM Mumbwa-Itezhi Tezhi Road which includes 2.2km of the Ikonkaile to Itezhi tezhi Boma Access Road.

The Road completion date is set for March 2016. The build is being undertaken by Build Trust Construction Limited as a joint venture with Powerflex at the cost of $23.52m USD. The two companies signed the contract in February 2014 and the completion date is set for March 2016. The contractors had already advanced with the first seal surfacing of 9.8km while the second seal was at 4.94km.

The project construction was commission in August 2014 by the Government under the Link Zambia 8000 road projects which aims at improving road infrastructure countrywide through opening of new road links to the province and districts in the country.

Once completed, the new road will create easier movement for farmers and produce to markets. This is great as travel time and vehicle operation costs will also reduce while tourism to the Kafue National Park will be boosted. Communication links for transporting goods around the country will also be improved.
