The construction of a 150 bed capacity COVID-19 containerize ward behind the Walvis Bay state hospital in Namibia has commenced. The ward which will be accessible to patients from constituencies in the Erongo region is expected to be up and running in three weeks time.
The business community, private sector, ministry of Works and Transport and the Walvis Bay municipality are putting resources together for the operation of the ward.
The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) recently announced a fifth and sixth case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Namibia. Like the first two cases, the latest case is also travel-related. The 5th case is a 44-year-old Namibian male pilot. He went to Johannesburg on 07 February 2020 and returned on 13 February 2020. He had a visitor who is a fellow Pilot from South Africa before he got sick. Samples were taken and result came out positive. He has since been put in isolation.
The 6th case is a 21-year-old Namibian male, student studying at WITS University in South Africa. He was tested in South Africa, but travelled back before results came out. The results came out as positive. He is admitted in isolation. There are still no thrown cases of local transmission in Namibia, and no COVID-19 deaths.
